From finding your tutor to your first lesson — here's everything you need to know.
For Students
Step 1
Find Your Tutor
Browse our verified tutors and filter by location, price, level, lesson venue, and availability. Look for the Bunka-cho badge for Japanese government-certified teachers. Every tutor on the platform has passed a DBS check.
Step 2
Book a Trial Lesson
Your first lesson with any tutor is 50% off. Choose between in-person (at a cafe, library, tutor's home, or your home) or online. Select a date and time that works for you.
Step 3
Pay Securely
All payments are processed securely through Stripe. No cash, no hassle. Save with lesson packages: 5 lessons (5% off) or 10 lessons (10% off), valid for 90 days.
Step 4
Learn & Track Progress
After each lesson, your tutor provides a lesson report with topics covered, homework, and a plan for next time. Track your progress over time and build your skills week by week.
Step 5
Leave a Review
After your lesson, leave a review to help other students find great tutors. Only students who have completed a lesson can review, keeping our ratings trustworthy.
For Tutors
Step 1
Register & Get Verified
Create your account, upload your ID, and complete an Enhanced DBS check. If you have Bunka-cho certification, we'll verify it against the official registry. Once approved, your profile goes live.
Step 2
Set Up Your Profile
Set your hourly rates (between £10-£60), choose your teaching areas across the UK, specify where you can teach (your home, student's home, public places, or online only), and set your availability.
Step 3
Receive Bookings
Students find you through search and book directly. You'll receive notifications for new bookings and messages. The in-app messaging system lets you coordinate lesson details securely.
Step 4
Teach & Get Paid
Conduct your lessons, submit lesson reports, and get paid. Payments are held for 48 hours after lesson completion, then transferred to your bank account within 2-3 business days. Commission starts at 15% and drops to 10% as you teach more.
Your Safety Matters
Every tutor is DBS-verified. We provide safety tools including an emergency button, lesson check-in/check-out, and the ability to share lesson details with a trusted contact. In an emergency, always call 999 first.
